Three Simple Steps to Break the Cycle

The connection between sleeplessness and anxiety can trigger a host of mental and physical symptoms. Lack of sleep anxiety can be reversed to bring about optimism and inner ease however. On today’s episode of the anxiety guy podcast I will reveal what needs to be done for your sleep debt for the day ahead. Let’s go (show notes below)!

Podcast Description

A lack of sleep can be a frustrating trigger and perpetuator of anxiety (this YouTube video explains). Most people tend to struggle with sleep anxiety, even though most deny when asked on the subject matter.

This episode of the anxiety guy podcast explores three proven ways of handling lack of sleep anxiety. The first strategy is reflecting and journaling. This step should be done as the first thing in the morning after waking up. Your reflection should be based on what took place the night before, what happened the night before a rough sleep, and which thoughts you became emotionally invested into.

The second strategy to tackling sleep anxiety is ridiculing your sleeplessness. This step requires you to create humor towards the sleeplessness and not letting it take control of the mind and body. This way you avoid physiological tension and mental rigidity for the day ahead. This will allow for a day of ease rather than continuing to struggle with sleeplessness and anxiety.

The third and final strategy is redirecting your focus towards the present time. This third step is continuous throughout the day and helps you revert from your comfort zone. This is where the ‘responding’ practices come in, which is where the conscious mind re-directs the unconscious part of you consistently.

Quotes

“If you’ve had a tough sleep, waking up, and feeling like your day is going to be very, very challenging. What you want to do is reflect and journal on what took place the night before? What happened the night before a rough sleep? Which thoughts did you become emotionally invested in? In what ways did your body not feel safe? What habits prior to sleep need replacing? Remember also that what you expect to happen has a high likelihood of happening.”

“So wake up and reflect, do not live your life unconsciously. Live your life mindfully and consciously around what’s really taking place. Do not succumb to the anxiousness.”

“Humor eases tension. And tension represents the logs that maintain and strengthen the fire that comes with sleeplessness. Okay. So what’s interesting here is that you can create new associations.”

“Remember, always that the inner child always has a motivation, key word, a motivation behind why it does what it does. This includes the feeling of tiredness, the persistence of bodily anxiety symptoms, the randomness of intrusive thoughts, all of these have a safety factor that is playing out being driven by the inner child.”

Conclusion

Sleeplessness and anxiety can have awful repercussions. However there are always ways to tame the overly emotional mind especially through bringing to its attention what it cannot see. The simple fact that the worst possible outcome has never really come true is enough to begin the process of rationalizing the lack of sleep for the day ahead.

Focus on not adding more thoughts, emotion, or action to the tired state of your mind and body. This is key. Sleeplessness and anxiety can go hand in hand yes, but it doesn’t have to take over the entire day. Nor does it have to keep you in a low vibration. There is no rule that says you must prove your happiness each day, so be gentle towards yourself and understand that it’s a challenging day, not a challenging life as your inner child may think.
